Three decades ago the United States hosted the World Cup. Now, with the tournament primed to return to American soil in 2026, Nike reveal the new U.S. national team kits – designs that tap into the nostalgia of 1994 while bringing the look firmly into the modern era.
The 1994 World Cup marked a turning point for football in North America. It helped shift perceptions of the game across the continent and ultimately paved the way for the birth of Major League Soccer two years later. Reflecting the bold design language of the time, the U.S. kits from that tournament split the symbolism of the national flag across two jerseys: stripes for home, stars for away. More than 30 years later, those iconic motifs return, refreshed and refined for a new generation as the country builds toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Set to debut later this month in Atlanta, the new kits arrive at a moment of growing anticipation as the United States prepares to co-host the global showpiece. For the first time, the design also unifies every U.S. Soccer national team under one shared visual identity, linking youth sides through to the senior squads with the same crest and design philosophy.
The collection centres around two distinct jerseys: a Stars kit (away) and a Stripes kit (home), alongside a striking goalkeeper design. The latter continues the “Hollywood Goalkeeper” concept first introduced in December 2025, a project aimed at bringing flair and personality back to the position while celebrating the individuality of those between the posts.
“A national team jersey represents the pride of wearing the crest, not just for players on the field, but also for the fans who support them every step of the way,” said Dave Wright, Chief Commercial Officer of U.S. Soccer. “With the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup coming to the United States, we’re excited to see players across all 27 of our National Teams and supporters across the country wearing this kit as we build toward an incredible moment for the game.”
As with previous releases, Nike worked closely with the federation and players throughout the design process. Through workshops and listening sessions, members of the U.S. Men’s National Team offered detailed feedback that influenced everything from fabric weight to seam placement. The collaboration extended to testing fit, mobility and breathability, ensuring the final product is built for the high-intensity conditions expected during a summer World Cup.
Beyond the visible design cues, the collection also introduces several subtle details unique to the federation. Each jersey features an “Inner Pride” mark inside the collar, a hidden graphic intended to represent the internal drive players carry onto the pitch and to echo the federation’s “The Best of U.S.” ethos.
Typography also receives a bespoke touch. For the first time, U.S. Soccer has developed its own dedicated kit typefaces – the Stars and Stripes fonts – created exclusively for the federation and set to define the look of U.S. teams for years to come.
“I think between both kits there is something for everybody,” said Ronnie J. Stewart, Global Product Director at Nike. “If you want to be loud and proud and represent the crest, no one’s going to doubt who you're there for in the light kit. If you’re looking for that lifestyle look that works off the field, the dark is for you.”
With a nod to one of the most memorable kit eras in U.S. football history, the new designs bridge past and future, acting as a reminder of where the game has come from in America, as well as nodding to where it’s headed as the world prepares to return in 2026.
