We take a look back at the best bits from October. Another busy month of signature and limited edition boots as brands shake up their on-pitch line ups.
New releases dropped more than leaves from trees as we entered Fall 14. The next wave of football boots fell in line with the turn of the season as Nike, adidas, Umbro, Lotto & PUMA all left their mark on the month by refreshing their silos. Miss anything? We've got you covered...
Umbro kicked off October by dropping updates across their growing silo collection. The Double Diamond paint brush hooked up the Speciali IV in a “Team Royal” takeover before getting creative on the "Scube Blue" GeoFlare, complete with cam effect. Finally we saw Umbro's latest silo get a colourway update, with the Umbro UX 1 getting a familiar paint job in “Team Royal/Green Gecko/Dark Navy”.
Nike's FC247 collection was the next to freshen up headlined by a third generation Elastico Finale, which for the first time was made available in a turf sole and in two colourways, a low key "Midnight Fog" vibe and a brighter "Hyper Crimson" edition. Nike's status as kings of the small sided game was boosted further with colour updates landing on the Lunargato II (“Black/Hyper Turquoise”) and Bomba Finale II ("Hyper Crimson/Wolf Grey”).
adidas went Crazylight in October shaving off excess weight from their four-silo pack. The Crazylight transformation saw some boots get drastic changes in terms of weight but some received minimal weight reduction, i.e the Nitrocharge and F50 dropped just 10g. The design however was an even more drastic change across the whole collection. The Crazylight pack was introduced for the midweek Champions League fixtures which saw some players taking the opportunity to wear the eccentric updates.
Time for Nike to muscle in and muscle in they did. CR signature releases are always the most anticipated releases of the year and Nike dropped arguably their best yet last month. The Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 landed with an out of this world design and in typical CR fashion he debuted them in the clasico and scored, obviously. The first CR to land on the new Superfly silhouette was accompanied by a Vapor X version of the boot as Nike expanded the collection with a 9th exclusive of the series.
The PUMA King is one of the most prestigious boots still in the game and it was carefully transformed into the new KING II in October. Although the King plays an off-pitch role on the pro scene these day it was released in a rich "Majorica Blue" colourway with some distinctive updates fit for the modern game.
PUMA then gave us two new colourways for the evoSPEED and evoPOWER. The evoSPEED saw a “Black” backdrop with a splash of “Pool Green” on the boot for an icy cool effect. The evoSPEED was also released in a leather, with all the benefits of a speed boot with a soft leather upper favoured by a number of pros including Adam Lallana. The evoPOWER boots got an equally impressive “Pool Green/White/Grenadine/Turbulence” colourway to jazz things up for Fall '14.
Lotto released a limited edition boot for their long standing servant Luca Toni. The Italian brand wanted to celebrate the fact that Luca Toni had been with the brand for 10 years. Therefore, the World Cup winner was presented with a limited edition Stadio Potenzo boot. The boot featured a beautiful royal Italian blue that covered the main of the leather upper and references to their main man.
Last week for Halloween we saw the release of the Supernatural pack, unlike the Crazylight pack we only saw the Predator Instinct and the f50 get the Supernatural title and look. Both boots caused a stir in terms of style and colour but were featured heavily at the weekend with many players taking the opportunity to support the mini-collection including Oscar and James Rodriguez who both scored equally as Supernatural goals.
An epic month of colossal releases. Got a favourite boot from October? Shout it out in the comments below. November, what you got?
