Chasing another half volley down memory lane, we stumble onto a stunning piece of footballing history in the Bergkamp Pro RS by Reebok. Long before Reebok left the game and got absorbed into adidas, they were creating masterpieces like this.
In 1995, Dennis Bergkamp made the move to Arsenal and created one of the most potent attacks that the Premier League has ever seen. To add in on the new move, Bergkamp was also sporting a custom boot from Reebok... a signature line that helped pave the way for the modern series we see on Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar etc. The Dutch wizard and his boots helped Arsenal back into the Champions League and ushered in a new era for the red side of London.
Made in Italy and sporting a leather upper, the Bergkamp Pro RS, 2 decades old this year was seen as one of the best boots for players that were actually looking for something outside of a classically dominated style boot. Tough for us to imagine today, but even with the classic fold over tongue these would have been seen as a modern boot at the time, especially with that five stud set-up in the forefoot. We miss that Reebok, that logo, we miss Bergkamp.
Who had a pair of these then? Shoutout to classicfootballshirts.com for the hook-up.
