Central London played host to the Under Armour SpeedForm launch event this week as the brand showcased their latest silo with the help of special guest and new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay.
Fresh off the back of his multi-million pound move to Old Trafford, Memphis was in England to launch Under Armour's most advanced football boot to date, as the media assembled to lace up and test it for themselves in a series of drills. Just when you think you're weaving in and out of poles and ladders like a boss along comes Memphis who obviously obliterated everyone and made us look like we had the mobility level somewhere between Per Mertesacker and Stonehenge.
Before Memphis was presented on stage, Josh Rattet, VP, Team Sports Under Armour kicked off proceedings. “It became an obsession to build a speed boot that could be worn without a break-in period. We knew that UA SpeedForm offered a technology that can truly impact performance because the seamless heel cup and molded toes allow the boot to mold to the foot. If a boot feels like it’s custom-fitted, it eliminates a lot of distractions footballers traditionally have with speed boots that compromise comfort.”
With the presentation over we got our chance to slip into the SpeedForm to take them for a spin around Under Armour's circuit. The verdict? They've nailed this. Comfort wise the SpeedForm stands on its own within the speed boot market and that's down to the seamless heel cup that eliminates any excess space in the boot and allows the heel to slot in naturally, securing the foot to the boot.
Under Armour are a leading force in the States and it's quickly becoming easy to see why as their presence in Europe takes a serious step up with the launch of a boot that's technologically superior to any boot to carry the logo before and can finally boast a professional backing of a future superstar in Memphis Depay.
