PUMA continue their 10th anniversary celebrations of the v1.06 with a re-release of iconic proportions. The "Grass" edition of the 2006 speed boot was a landmark product in the brand's design journey and it's back again a whole decade later to disrupt once more.
Originally worn by Samuel Eto'o, Peter Crouch, Robert Pires and serial-low-sock-offender Alexander Hleb, the "Grass" print design was one of the most talked about boots of the '00s. With technology and aesthetics way ahead of its time, it seems fitting that PUMA have remade the v1.06 in limited numbers to slip seamlessly into the ultra-competitive flow of modern day football boots.
An ambassador of speed, it feels bizarre to be talking about a genuine lightweight speed boot as a "heritage" silo but time flies and so does innovation. The v1.06 laid the foundations for PUMA's ever-evolving speed line that now comes in the shape of the evoSPEED 1.4 SL, and for that it earns legendary status. The v1.06 built an empire of lightweight performance for the brand, and to re-release that distinct design to a new era of players is worthy recognition to a boot that disrupted and conquered.
Tech-wise it remains untouched. The v1.06 is essentially still the original with an AptoLast and PUMA Lace Wrap System providing the support for a snug fit, and an extremely thin Scholler ConTec upper with a lace cover to clean contact when striking the ball. Another breakthrough feature on the v1.06 was the carbon fibre plate to reduce weight, the first of its kind and an innovation widely used across the market right now.
