Liverpool in Istanbul, Barcelona against PSG, the 2012 Ryder Cup, Red Rum at the 1973 Grand National, all great sporting comebacks. But in terms of footballing product, no comeback has been greater than that of the adidas Predator Champagne Collection. Prepare to look at sold out signs through a blur of nostalgia. We raise a glass to one of football's finest.
Celebrating 15 years since David Beckham laced up the original at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, adidas have released a very limited run of re-issues as part of their 2017 Champagne Collection, and give us a pint glass 'cos we're pouring them all together and necking it in one. Same again, please.
One look at the adidas Predator Mania Champagne and you'll be excused for falling into lucid daydreams of Beckham scuffing his penalty into the middle of the Argentinean net and wheeling off into the England fans as Trevor Sinclair joins in the celebrations. This boot for a certain post-1966 generation is international footballing glory. It's hope. Redemption. The confirmation of a legend. Complete with rubber-padded shooting technology and fold-over-elasticated tongue in leather. Find 'em in the top corner.
Generations of innovation come together for a celebratory glass of champagne as adidas reach a landmark occasion for one of their most iconic football boot colourways. The adidas ACE 17+ Purecontrol receives the seal of approval from the Three Stripes by being deemed worthy of wearing the Champagne suit once worn by a legend. Nods to the Mania appear in the form of a clean Champagne upper and red detailing as a tribute to the iconic tongue.
The adidas X 16+ Purechaos can't escape the Champagne spray either as the speed silo is drenched in 2002 vibes. A busier design than the two headline models but one that captures and twists the Champagne design into one of its own. A red collar, black detailing and champagne upper make it a trio of limited edition throwbacks well worthy of carrying the colossal colourway of a legend.
