Umbro drop a bomb on pre-season as the new-generation Medusae II Elite shakes up their on-pitch collection. The first Double Diamond boot to feature a responsive knit collar, the Medusae II Elite is built for speed and touch, and we'll do our very best to tell you how and why.
The quick version of this is that Umbro have combined an extremely lightweight speed outsole with a classic k-leather vamp on the forefoot for touch and control. The responsive knot collar brings that snug fit. This is undoubtably Umbro's most advanced generation boot to date so we'll go a bit deeper: The Umbro Medusae II Elite aims to be that complete boot, the boot that ticks all boxes.
Technology has advanced at such rapid pace that we're likely to see more all-rounder boots in the coming seasons. PUMA have already achieved this with the ONE 17.1 and now Umbro have delivered with the Medusae II Elite. Perhaps the days of categorised boots are behind us? Back to the new tech on the Medusae II Elite, and Umbro have joined the hi-collared knit game with an innovation that harnesses the foot and provides that locked in sensation.
The foot is surrounded by a TPU cage added to the knit to provide an improved fit and stability lower down the boot, and alongside this is a thicker TPU band for additional support and security in the midfoot area. The top of the Umbro Medusae II Elite features a no-sew K-leather vamp to maintain the light weight of the boot whilst keeping the foot dry. Finally, the lightweight speed outsole is designed with conical and diamond-shaped studs to allow for rapid changes of speed and direction.
Player wise you'll be seeing Portugal defender Pepe and Mix Diskerud of FC Gothenburg wearing the Medusae II Elite next season. The "Electric Blue/Blazing Yellow" colourway will drop as the first offering and will be followed by "Black/White/Bluefish" and "Winter Bloom/White/Fiery Coral" editions ahead of the predominantly-white Triadic version later in 2017.
