Nike turn another chapter in the CR7 series by launching the fifth installation of signature Superfly style. The design inspiration? Goals, Real Madrid, goals, and more goals. What we're looking at here is the Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 Chapter 5: Cut to Brilliance.
Ronaldo's world record £80m transfer to Real Madrid in 2009 serves as the inspiration behind the Chapter 5 design, as well as representing a stage in his career where he began to smash the living Mercurial out of Real Madrid goalscoring records. Expect the main man to be wearing his new wheels in time for Real Madrid's upcoming Champions League games against Borussia Dortmund (26/09) and Tottenham Hotspur (17/10).
Cristiano marked his Real Madrid debut with a goal, the first goal in a furious mission to become the club's all time leading goalscorer. Ronaldo's relentless determination and ruthlessness in front of goal ensured that he became the fastest player to score league goals at every imaginable milestone: 50, 150, 200, 250 and counting. Ah, and he also became the first player to score against every La Liga club in one season. That's the sort of stuff you need to do to get your own signature Superfly series.
As for the design, the CR7 Chapter 5 boots feature a diamond-inspired graphic on a white base that sparkles under the lights. The upper includes multi-colour knit details mimicking the multitude of colours diamonds refract. On the medial side of the boot, a textured CR7 logo provides a tactile representation of the diamond graphic while the heel counter provides a top down view of a brilliant cut diamond accompanied by the date of Ronaldo’s Madrid debut.
The high heel reads “El Sueño Del Niño” (the dream of the child) as these were the words Ronaldo shared with Nike’s design team to describe how he felt about joining Real Madrid and being welcomed by 80,000 at his unveiling at the Bernabeu. Diamonds, signature logo and a nod to goalscoring records. Very CR7 indeed.
That's Five down, two to go. The fifth is certainly the cleanest of the collection so far, and one that's going to sit tight with the all white of Real Madrid. The man himself is pretty pleased with them.
