Dropping as one half of the PUMA "Illuminate Pack" for the 2018 World Cup in Russia is the third-generation ONE 1 silo. A boot that will be worn by the likes of Sergio Aguero, Olivier Giroud, and Nacho Monreal when the action gets under way in a fortnights time.
PUMA have opted for a strong visual display in Russia by dressing both of the boot options in matching iridescent coats of colour. The colourway follows that of the next-gen FUTURE 2.1 but mixes things up with an alternative analytical geometric graphic towards the rear that represents the minds of those players that read the game ahead of all others. We good with that? Yeah? Okay, we'll move on.
The focus of the ONE 1 is to enhance every aspect of a player's game. Big brief, that. We're talking strike, speed, touch, and to be honest... this is much more like it. The ONE 1 is streamline, light, and fierce-looking – far more so than the first two generations. Until now we always thought it looked uncomfortable that someone like Sergio Aguero would front the ONE line, it always felt more like a defenders boot due to its chunkiness. Now though, it makes sense.
The leather on the ONE 1 remains super soft and thin K-Leather, but this time it's only been applied to the key striking area of the boot to help reduce its overall weight. Touch is addressed by the inclusion of 3D dots that lie underneath the K-Leather vamp further to enhance the grip on the ball. More lacing options have also been added on the new evoKnit sock which makes sense to us.
A new lightweight RAPIDSPRINT outsole reduces the overall weight of the boot and the new stud configuration is combined with an external heel counter, to provide stability and aid sharp turns. A much more agile and reactive boot. As we said, much more like it. Next stop, Russia.
