Nike have honoured Luka Modric with a celebratory boot after the Croatian midfielder picked up the 2018 Best Player Award in London last night, ending a decade of domination by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

There's no doubt that the Mercurial design is a fitting signature reward for Modric's new found status, even if we are waking up this morning trying to remember what a non-CR7 or Messi leading world is like to live in. Nike have yet to announce whether Modric will wear his special Edition Mercurial. He's perhaps too modest to be singled out. You know for a fact that Cristiano Ronaldo would be wearing them, and them alone, around his house for a fortnight.
