Combating the cold with a double barrelled defence of innovation adidas deliver their latest football boot collection with a twist. This here is the "Cold Mode" pack, headlined by the adidas Predator 18+.

On first glance it looks like a straight up colour refresh, but a closer inspection will reveal some secondary branding on the instep of the boot. That branding belongs to a company called 'PrimaLoft' who are a thermal insulation specialist, and they're here to eliminate freezing toes on pitches the winter. PrimaLoft was initially developed in 1983 to serve the needs of the US Army, and has since gone on to be used by the likes of Patagonia, The North Face and Helly Hanson.

The Three Stripes have called in PrimaLoft to help eliminate that numbing feeling of freezing feet in games, and the result series that sees the Predator, X and Nemeziz (in both laceless and laced) incorporate the tech into their respective upper to keep the feet warm and dry throughout action. Acknowledging a simple problem and solving it, the most satisfying form of innovation.

If you're not content with calling this colourway blue, then you can enjoy the official label of "Trace Blue/Legend Ink/Clear Orange" – a low key combination that sets the tone for the rest of the collection. Weirdly, the collection is only available in FG so let's hope we have a cold spring. Ah yeah, there's no Copa. Not yet anyway. There are bigger imminent plans for that...
