In honour of his 500th Premier League appearance, Nike have presented James Milner with a special Nike Magista Opus II boot that incorporates the badges of the five clubs that he has played for.
In what must be chalked down as a case of better late than never, Nike have presented Milner with the boot a whole month after he actually made the milestone appearance, which was against Bournemouth on 8 December.
Taking the relatively blank template that was the Magista Opus II from the 2018 World Cup ‘Just Do It Pack’, Nike customised the boot to honour the impressive feat of achieving 500 Premier League appearances, something only 12 other players have achieved in the history of the competition. Milner has been a stalwart of the Magista silo, persisting with it despite its retirement, so it was the obvious choice.
The boot itself features the crest of each of the five clubs that Milner has played for to date, as well as the number of appearances he made for each club, while current club Liverpool’s crest has the phrase ‘To be continued…’ appearing alongside it. The Premier League logo takes pride of place on the vamp of the boot with the number 500 above it, while a picture of Milner in his favoured number 7 shirt features on the heel for a finishing touch.
Why is the Villa badge so uncomfortably close to the Swoosh? And why does it look like a cake version of a boot?
Whilst this boot may give the outward impression of being a little... rushed... Nike had also presented Milner with a special boot for the match itself with the number 500 on the heel, although he didn’t actually wear it in the game. Nice idea, at least.
Milner will be back in Premier League action on Saturday as Liverpool travel to Brighton.
