Capping off an incredibly successful 2018 for one of its star performers, Nike have awarded MLS MVP and Golden Boot winner Josef Martinez with two custom pairs of Nike Mercurial Superflys.
As well as winning the MLS Cup with Atlanta United, striker Josef Martinez also ended the season as the league’s top scorer, earning him the golden boot, something which undoubtedly will have gone a long way towards him also scooping the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. And as is often the case, Nike have honoured his achievements by rewarding their star performer with his very own custom Mercurials.
The first pair feature the same leopard skin design of last year’s Nike x Kim Jones Mercurial, only in a red and black colourway, representing the colours of Martinez’s club, Atlanta United. The second pair are a little more straightforward in that they are a pair of ‘Golden Touch’ Superflys that Kylian Mbappe was presented with for winning the inaugural Kopa award at the 2018 Ballon d’Or ceremony However, both pairs of Martinez’s boots have been personalised with the Venezuelan flag and the words “2018 MLS MVP; 2018 MLS Top Scorer; 2018 MLS Champions”.
Atlanta get their MLS title defence underway this weekend against Wayne Rooney’s DC United.
