Dropping as Paul Pogba's fifth collaboration with adidas Football comes the signature SS19 collection for the Manchester United midfielder. Designed by Pogba & adidas, and inspired by his passion of basketball, the latest capsule blends seasonal flair through court, pitch and streetwear scenes.
Headlined by the adidas Predator 19+ 'PP' football boots, which will be worn on-pitch by the man himself, the collection includes six further apparel pieces alongside a Pogba branded footwear pack. Taking his signature series into a fifth season ensures that Pogba is the main man for adidas when it comes to the off-pitch party; a scene in which he's not shy of embracing.
Arriving in a Manchester United themed colour-combination of red, white and black, the collection achieves a crowd-pleasing aesthetic, especially on the boots thanks to its OG Predator feels. Built around Pogba's unique style and passions, Season 5 has a strong basketball influence throughout, not least with the Predator 19+ trainer which is constructed with a blend of football and basketball technology.
Inspired by another adidas athlete, James Harden, the trainer uses tooling from the Harden Vol2 basketball shoe for a distinct silhouette – those come in special packaging adding to the uniqueness of the collection.
Also inspired by basketball are the reversible shorts, which are mesh on one side to match the 'PP' basketball jerseys. A Pogba branded tee, hoodie, trackpants, jacket and basketball vests complete the apparel line-up, while a pair of adilette slides wrap things up for the footwear releases. Hints of light beige and snake skin have also been included throughout the pack to tie the collection further into lifestyle circles rather than just occupying a performance presence.
The previous Season 4 signature line for Pogba launched back in October last year and featured a deep camo Predator 19+ boot and low-key darker collection of apparel. The Three Stripes always work closely with Pogba to ensure that his personality comes through in their collaborative lines, and this latest series does just that. The basketball jerseys feature Pogba's name on the rear along with the number '94' which also appears on the front – a reference to his year of birth.
Pogba actually gave us a brief preview of his now released Season 5 collection when he arrived at France's Clairefontaine Training Base in the jacket, pants and slides for international duty last month. Five of the best. Will be interesting to see if adidas try to incorporate his squad number (6) for the sixth season.
