To celebrate winning the Serie A title in his first season in the league, Nike served Cristiano Ronaldo with a new CR7 special edition Mercurial Superfly VI. Featuring a clever nod to the black and white of Juventus, along with bold details and gold trim for a regal look that’s unapologetically Ronaldo.
The veil has finally been lifted on the surprise special edition release from Nike after Ronaldo wore the latest Mercurial Superfly CR7 SE to score his 600th career goal in them during Juve's 1-1 draw with Inter Milan last week. Pretty hard to miss what they were though, wasn’t it? While Ronaldo had to share the ‘LVL UP’ spotlight with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Sam Kerr, these are for one man, and one man only. Oh yeah, and they're set to be released in limited quantities on May 6.
‘CR7STIANO’ is brazenly plastered across the medial side of each boot in an elongated font that wraps underneath and also combines with the design of the box they come in to provide a nod to those famous Bianconeri black and white stripes. That's joined by the aglets (the plastic bits at the end of the laces, every day's a school day) which also feature black and white stripes. But these boots are all about Ronaldo, make no mistake; the signature special back in CR7’s repertoire after a brief hiatus.
Juventus lifted the Serie A title recently, and these signature specials celebrate the fact that he’s now won league titles in England, Spain and Italy. That he’s at Juventus at the moment is just a convenience in his quest for continual glory: he’s winning and everyone else in his team is just along for the ride. No, that's doing his teammates an injustice, but the guy is a serial winner, and these boots are yet another way of recognising his numerous achievements.
The base look of these boots is not a far shout from the Black Lux design, although it’s been given a brush up with the gold executed in a far more premium way. Further CR7 detailing can be found on the insoles in the shape of Ronaldo’s famous celebratory pose in the right foot, and his signature in the left. The 'CR7STIANO' and Swoosh on the instep both feature a subtle zebra-esque print for another added taste of signature style.
Restricted to 2019 pairs – each individually numbered on the collar of the right boot – you’ll need to be quick to cop a pair of these, as they’ll sell out in minutes. Monday 6th May. Write that down.
Pick up the Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 SE at prodirectsoccer.com on 6 May.
