New boots, last training session? Neymar switched into his latest signature Nike Mercurial Vapor XIII design yesterday as he joined his Paris Saint-Germain teammates on the training pitch. The new 'Speed Freak' edition is Neymar's first exclusive drop of the 2019/20 season but it remains to be seen which club he'll be playing for when he wears it in a game for the first time.

Whenever Nike drop a new signature boot they always do so when all eyes are on their leading players. It tends to be Cristiano Ronaldo during el clasico week or Neymar ahead of an international tournament or big Champions League knockout game and this time is no different, only it comes with a twist. Neymar is heavily rumoured to be close to re-signing with Barcelona before the European transfer window closes and Nike have ensured that his new boot will be firmly in the spotlight should he be unveiled and make his second debut in front of the whole world.

The Nike Mercurial Vapor XIII NJR 'Speed Freak' edition dropped at the beginning of the week and are scattered with personal meaning for the Brazilian striker. Designed with a racing theme, the most obvious racing call-out comes from the chequered flag print, while the red, black and chrome colouring is chosen to tribute two of the most iconic racing drivers of all time – the silver half of the boot is a nod to Neymar's pal Lewis Hamilton, while the red honours Brazil's legendary F1 driver Ayrton Senna.

The rear of the Vapor 13 NJR Speed Freak is displayed to mirror the layout of race suit overalls worn by F1 drivers. The little icons are scattered around like sponsors and all point towards Neymar's journey: you've got the Osadia y Alegria text, the Sonho Dourado Golden Dream of his first signature Hypervenom, his roman numeral IV tattoo for his family and the Rihanna inspired 'Shhhh', fittingly the title of his previous Mercurial boot.
