Launching as a celebration of the Art of Football and the power that the sport has to unify, adidas and British-based artist Reuben Dangoor unveil a striking limited edition Predator.
Created to spread a positive message of unity, the adidas x Reuben Dangoor Predator features a black base that’s lit up by an eye-eye-catching graphic of orange, violet, yellow, and teal stripes that stretch across the entire boot, bringing together handshakes, heart signs, and fist bumps, all hand-drawn by Dangoor as part of the bespoke design.
The stripes spread around the underside of the boot, with the colours bouncing between the iridescent split soleplates. Dangoor’s signature can then be found on the rear of the collar on each boot, as any good work of art should have to authenticate it. The limited edition release represents the first time an artist has collaborated on the Predator silhouette, and it’s set to be joined in a wider pack by two trainer editions, to complement the power and reach of the game beyond the pitch.
Early indications suggest that Atletico’s Alvaro Moratta – a big Predator aficionado – could be one player to give this limited edition a run out. Shouldn’t be too hard to miss...
Joining the Limited edition Predator in the adidas x Reuben Dangoor collection are two off-pitch models, with the Predator 20.1 Art Trainer and Predator 20+ Art Trainer intended as a symbol of togetherness beyond the pitch. The Predator 20.1 Art Trainer features a laceless upper that rides on a cushioned Boost midsole for enhanced comfort. The base colour is black, with the colour of the graphic from the Predator boot present through the Three Stripes. “The design came from wanting to put a twist on the signature three stripes," Dangoor explained. "The concept was how sport can bring people together, celebrate diversity, inclusion and respect – so I added the hand gestures on the end to signify that. It grew from there.”
As a point of contrast, the Predator 20+ Art Trainer comes in a base white, while it also boasts a laceless upper. The same hand symbols which appear on the Predator take position across the heel, and it all rides on a 4D midsole for controlled energy return.
Speaking of the project and specifically the trainers, Dangoor said: “Working with the adidas designers was so good. I've never worked on shoes before so they really helped me, telling me what materials could hold detail. They were so receptive and really did everything to make the idea work.”
