Unveiled as a curtain close to the 19/20 season, the immensely anticipated and popping pink latest Nike and Kylian Mbappé signature edition of the Mercurial Superfly VII, known as Rosa, has dropped. Inspired by the aesthetics of the 2008 Mercurial Vapor Rosa, it's an elite party on the senses.
Following on from his debut signature edition, the Mercurial ‘Bondy Dreams’, which launched back in December 2019 alongside a clothing and apparel collection, Nike launch the Mercurial Superfly Mbappé Rosa, the PSG's second signature style. We saw it on the feet of the man himself in the Champions League final. The design sees a bold and vibrant pink wrap that takes influence from the Mercurial Vapor 2008 coupled with a 'KM' sign off marking this out on the tongue.
The design is updated from the 2008 original with a white lightning bolt Swoosh – first seen on the Neighbourhood pack – bordered in silver and leading to the toe, while a chrome plate and details in the skin of the upper, including that 'KM' logo and Mercurial branding to complete the new look. So why has this 2008 classic been chosen as the inspiration for Mbappé’s latest?
For the answer, it’s a trip down memory lane for a life lesson he learned from his mother about the importance of hard work and determination. Mbappé explained: "When I was a young boy around 10 years old I saw these incredible pink boots being worn by some of my favourite players in the world. I wanted those boots so badly, I begged my parents to get some and they told me that if I worked really hard and did well at school for long enough I could get these beautiful boots. I listened to my parents and worked so hard that in the end they had to get them for me. I was so happy! Now, I am so pleased that Nike have created my second product collection with these special boots. What a dream to wear them. They are the new versions of the pink boots I loved when I was a young boy and this is so special for me to work to achieve my dreams in these boots."
