Inspired by the pure speed of the game, Nike launch the third drop from their Mercurial 'Dream Speed' series, with a design packed with graphic elements that characterise quickness. Cristiano Ronaldo is set to debut them this Sunday, when Juventus entertain Napoli, while Sam Kerr and Kylian Mbappe will also wear them in the near future.
Building off the Mercurial Dream Speed and the Dream Speed 2, Nike unveil the third instalment in the series, with a design that hints at the speed of the game. Set to once again be worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, Sam Kerr and Kylian Mbappe, the boot relays the message of speed through clever pattern play, incorporated across the upper’s graphics.
Starting things off, a predominantly forward facing chevron band points the way, and this pattern is echoed on the medial side of the boot, with an enlarged, faded effect. A shimmering iridescent Swoosh dominates the lateral side, while a wavy net pattern represents the rippling effect made by a goal when scored. The dotted patterns on the grid of the inner heel denote formations used by winning teams across the years. Then there’s the famous safari print, last seen on Ronaldo’s last signature edition, and back here to pay homage to its debut on the pitch 10 years ago.
“These boots are all about chasing your dreams and doing whatever you can to achieve them,” said Cristiano Ronaldo. “One bit of advice I have for everyone to think about if you wear these boots: work hard and think big, and your dreams can come true.”
