Going back to where it all started and prioritising ultra lightweight for even faster speed, PUMA launch the Ultra ‘Speed of Light’, which is due to be worn on pitch by Antoine Griezmann, Sergio Agüero, Eugénie Le Sommer and Nikita Parris.

The Ultra exploded onto the scene a few months back, arriving as the first dedicated speed silo in PUMA’s setup since the evoSPEED was retired back in 2017. Now that switch to speed is taken up a notch as PUMA shift a gear to launch the Ultra ‘Speed of Light’. See what they’ve done there with that play on words? Like speed of light meaning really fast but also the speed of being lightweight… you know what, never mind, it’s just clever, OK?

For this latest evolution of the Ultra, launched in an “NRGY Blue/Yellow Alert” colourway, PUMA have updated the design with an ultra-lightweight MATRYXEVO upper, which has been totally engineered with reactive Aramid fibres and Carbon yarns. The strong Aramid fibres run through the lateral side of the boot to support quick cutting movements, while the lightweight Carbon yarns provide lock-down for rapid acceleration. A thin GripControl Pro skin is then applied in key areas to provide complete control on the ball.

That upper is then combined with a lightweight Peba SpeedUnit outsole, which features a design inspired by PUMA’s track running heritage. The soleplate combines subtle spikes in the forefront and V-shaped studs.  Basically, it’s all geared towards making you as fast as you can be. Makes sense.
