With nods a plenty to his legacy, adidas drop the special edition Messi El Retorno. The boot marks the Argentinian’s return to the brand’s speed franchise – the next generation X Speedflow – with a “Tech Metallic/Core Black/Intense Orange” colourway that’s inspired by the F30 boot he wore for that goal against Getafe in the Copa Del Rey in 2007.
Legacies in football don’t come much bigger or better than that of Leo Messi. Celebrating that legacy, adidas launch ‘El Retorno’, a special edition boot that sees the Argentinian returning to the Three Stripes’ speed silo after a prolonged period in the Nemeziz. The design of the boot is packed with nostalgia, celebrating the greatest on-field Messi moments, and he will wear them for the Copa America, starting 13 June.
Predominantly “Tech Met” in colour, with “Core Black” stripes, the boot is modelled on those he wore while scoring one of his most memorable goals in 2007 against Getafe. In addition, the celebration boot is packed with Messi personalisation, including a MESSI + 10 logo on the tongue and medial side, both in “Intense Orange/Core Black”.
On the left heel, MESSI 10 and Leo’s signature Messi logo features in “Team Yellow/Core Black”, with LEO 19 and his signature Messi logo in the same colour scheme on the right heel. Personalised details are also present on the left and right sockliner, with Messi’s logo and the Argentina flag featuring. Finally, a +F50 logo features in “Intense Orange” on Three Stripe branding of the left boot, while a +F30 logo features in the same colour and position on the right.
