Two custom boots in the space of a week for Raheem Sterling, as New Balance roll out the red carpet treatment for the England man’s latest signature boot. The special limited edition Furon v6+ ‘Jamaica’ celebrates Sterling’s Jamaican roots, and he will wear them in the coming weeks.
Raheem Sterling now sits alongside Sadio Mané in what is a lethal combo upfront for New Balance. The England man was the big name signing that the brand needed to bolster what was a stellar list of young recruits over the last 12 months, and now he enjoys the type of treatment that probably helped lure him to the brand in the first place; the type of treatment that a player of his calibre – one that can boast 100 Premier League goals – arguably deserves: a new signature edition boot.
New Balance previously provided Sterling with a special paint job to celebrate England's progression from the group stages at Euro 2021 and then this week honoured his achievement of reaching the 100-Premier-League-Goals club with a specially customised Furon v6+, but where that one was more for the mantlepiece and not available for retail, the brand now shifts to a proper limited edition release, inspired by the man himself and ready to perform on the pitch.
With only 195 pairs available, the ‘Jamaica’ has been designed in tribute to Sterling’s love for the island and how it has inspired him throughout his incredible football journey. Additionally, the boot was created to represent the strong connection the England talisman has with his mother and how important her choices and influence were in shaping the world-renowned person and player he is today.
Featured across the boot, is the famous national motto ‘Out of Many, One People’, which is complemented by a vibrant green and gold colour palette. The Numbers ‘1692’ and ‘1994’ have also been added, in recognition of the founding of Jamaica’s modern capital, Kingston and Raheem’s year of birth.
The nation’s flag print is displayed on the custom tongue, alongside a specially designed shipping label, applied in recognition of the many hat trick balls the three-times title winner sent to his mother’s home in Jamaica after scoring in matches. A special mention on the laces has also been reserved for Kingston and Maverley, where Raheem was born.
Sterling, who has worked closely with New Balance to create the boots, said: “Jamaica is a small island that’s had a massive influence on the world, whether it’s music, football, food or dance Jamaica always represents. I was a young kid when I left, but it’s a big part of my story. For me, it’s a real honour to be able to express that when I’m on the pitch”.
Expect to see Sterling in his signature edition Furon v6+ 'Jamaica' in upcoming fixtures.
