Switching its focus to matters away from the regular pitch, Nike has refreshed its small-sided game by bringing back a revamped version of the Street Gato silo alongside colour updates for the Lunar Gato, React Gato and Tiempo Legend React IX.
Back in 2011, Nike launched the StreetGato, a new causal small-sided football boot, which landed as part of the brand's Nike5 series. Now, following the rerelease of the LunarGato II back in 2019 and the launch of the React Gato in 2020, Nike now rounds out its small sided options with the return of the Street Gato, revamped for todays fast paced action.
The new Street Gato picks up where the OG left off, blending performance details with streetwear flair to enable you to transition into play at any moment. But where the 2011 version leaned a little too much in the lifestyle side of things, often for a clunky affair that wasn’t best suited to any level of high performance, the 2021 version refines its look and performance aspects, enabling it to switch a little more seamlessly between the worlds of lifestyle and performance. That’s mainly down to the redesigned silhouette, which cuts a much sleeker look. Prime in that redesigned shape is the new outsole, which features an extended rear lip for more comfort in your foot strike.
While the suede upper doesn’t boast all the benefits of a leather upper, it certainly fits in nicely with the idea of switching from playing on the street to just keeping things casual. Keeping that lifestyle option in mind, the Street Gato is initially available in a range of colourways, including “Black/Summit White/Off Noir”, “Bronze Eclipse/Bright Crimson” and “White/Light Photo Blue/Black/Lime Glow”
Backing up the Street Gato we have colour updates across Nike’s whole small-sided range with blue being the order of the day. The Lunar Gato II comes available in a choice of "White/Black/Light Photo Blue/Black” or "Black/Lime Glow/Light Photo Blue”, the React Gato in “Lime Glow/Black/White/Light Photo Blue” and the Tiempo Legend IX React in “Light Photo Blue/Black/Lime Glow”. The latter is the only boot of the existing lineup to feature any updates, and it comes with a streamlined, seamless upper with foam pods under the plush calfskin upper to improve touch and technique, while a re-engineered outsole offers improved traction. This is one of the only options for both turf and indoor court.
