It’s been on the cards for a little while now, but New Balance and Stone Island have picked the perfect time to unveil their first ever collaborative special edition football collection, arriving just in time for the World Cup.
A link up between New Balance and Stone Island was first announced back in 2021, with the two brands keen to develop a footwear partnership that would roll out in several different waves over the following few years. The fruits of the collaboration first appeared on the feet of Raheem Sterling in October of that year, and now the pair release their first special edition football collection, which is also set to signal the Italian sportswear brand’s first on-pitch appearance in their storied history.
Headlining the collaboration is a limited-edition New Balance x Stone Island Furon v7, which arrives in a new custom camouflage print pattern that pays homage to Stone Island’s famed archival Hand Painted Camouflage, featuring Stone Island’s compass alongside the New Balance logo. The Furon v7 features an innovative Hypoknit upper, with mesh lining and off-set lacing to deliver impressive lockdown, support, and an increased strike zone, and will be debuted on pitch by Raheem Sterling at the World Cup.
Another component of the collection is a Stone Island x New Balance football kit, first sported in September by UK rapper Dave at his Santan Cup tournament in Brazil. A collector’s edition, the full kit set features a jersey and shorts, outfitted with an original Stone Island camouflage pattern, inspired by the brand’s archival designs, and a silicone application of the iconic compass logo. Solid black socks offer a sleek disruption of the head-to-toe camo pattern. All three pieces in the Stone Island Kit Set are made from 100 percent recycled polyester, and are packaged in a custom, keepsake box.
The iconic 574 Legacy completes the collection. This modernised classic features a ripstop and suede upper and camo colourway, for a deconstructed archive inspired look.
