Arriving in time for the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup, Nike equip Kylian Mbappé with a new signature edition Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX. The design picks up where the ‘Generation Pack’ left off, introducing some Tricolore details in the heel.
With the competition really heating up in Qatar as temperatures plummet across Europe, the teams that remain in the contest are preparing for business. Amongst them is France, who are set to face Poland in the last 16 match on Sunday, 4 December, and one man in their ranks will be chomping at the bit. Kylian Mbappé has been on fire so far in the tournament, and now Nike equip him with a new signature style especially for the knockout stages of the World Cup.
The Frenchman’s new signature Nike Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX comes in the familiar guise of the ‘Generation Pack’, with that metallic copper upper dominating the look. At first glance, Mbappé’s new signature edition doesn’t look all that different from the regular Superbly from that pack – then one that he’s worn to score three goals in the tournament already. But, as Mbappé himself was only too quick to point out, the signature details pop on the heel of the soleplate, where the Tricolore blue, white and red appear. Further than that, the name of the player for whom the boot has been created appears on the lateral side at the head of the Swoosh, with the Mercurial ‘M’ of course appearing at then start.
While not as bold and brash as Ronaldo or Messi’s signature styles for the World Cup, it’s a nice touch from Nike to prepare Mbappé for the business end of the tournament. The likelihood is that the striker will wear this new signature style for the remainder of the tournament. Will he go on to win a second World Cup in them? You wouldn’t put it past him…
