Stop whatever else you’re doing at the moment and take five minutes to admire what is surely the boot of the year. This here is the adidas x Pro:Direct Soccer Predator Accelerator, released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of both the retailer and the Accelerator itself.
Pro:Direct Soccer, the world’s largest online football retailer, has been celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, partnering with brands for some special releases. And in a nice little coincidence it just so happens that the adidas Predator Accelerator – possibly adidas’s most iconic boot of all time – is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and so adidas team up with Pro:Direct for a very special limited edition version of the Predator Accelerator.
The Predator Accelerator defined a generation and encapsulated an era, with that instantly recognisable signature execution of the Three Stripe branding and that black, red and white colour combo. And its that colour combo that gets a premium shake up for the adidas x PDS Predator Accelerator ‘25th Anniversary Edition’, with the white being subbed out for shimmering silver and chrome. The official colourway is “Core Black/Red/Met Silver”, with the silver playing its part on the Three Stripes and the modern soleplate, something that features on the majority of remakes to ensure that the boot is up to the rigours of the modern game – if you dare wear something this good on to the pitch.
The original adidas logo from 1998 features on the underside of the tongue, with the modern performance logo appearing on the upper side and on the heel. But aside from that and the colour switch, the upper is an exact recreation, with those rubber elements still sitting neatly within the leather forefoot.
And it's no coincidence that it's been unveiled today... 2 May just so happens to be David Beckham's birthday. One of the most synonymous faces to wear the boot alongside Zinedine Zidane, Beckham was pretty much the poster boy of the Predator back in 1998, with the curtains, the pulled down tongue, the personalisation – it all formed part of that iconic story that was the Accelerator.
As with all things this good, the adidas x PDS Predator Accelerator ’25th anniversary’ edition is limited, in this case to just 998 units – a nod to 1998, the year of its original release.
The adidas x Pro:Direct Soccer Predator Accelerator '25th Anniversary' boots will be released on Thursday 4 May, and you better be uber quick if you want to get hold of a pair.
