Fresh off his historic debut season with Manchester City, Nike and Pro:Direct Soccer have announced that an extremely limited number of Erling Haaland's player-edition Phantom GX boots are being made available to their respective members.
Few players in the history of the Premier League can claim to have had as big an impact as Erling Haaland. Some questioned the strikers ability following his switch from Borussia Dortmund, questioning whether he’d be up to the rigours of the Premier League. And he answered all of his critics emphatically, helping to deliver the title with games to spare following a successful chase of previous leaders, Arsenal. But the real reason he was brought into City’s setup was to deliver the Champions League, which he duly contributed to as Manchester City followed in the footsteps of United to seal an impressive treble.
36 goals in 35 appearances, European Top Scorer, PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League. When Haaland looks back on this season, the only question will be: What next? But for now, Nike are focussing on the achievements of the 22/23 campaign, and they do so with a special limited edition Phantom GX hybrid, which combines the colours of the four different Nike boots that he’s worn this season.
This is an extremely limited edition run that arrives as the first launch as part of Nike and Pro:Direct Sport announcing their new connected membership program, which will see membership for both brand and retailer crossing over. All you need to do is connect your Pro:Direct Sport and Nike memberships (via the Pro:Direct Sport app) and follow the steps on prodirectsport.com and you’ll be entered into a ballot for your chance to buy the boot.
As for the design, the forefoot sees the Gripknit colouring lifted straight from the current Luminous Pack, while the heel takes on the Lucent Pack Air Zoom Mercurial Vapor XV look. There’s also a splash of the Phantom GX ‘Link’ colours in there, along with those of the older model Mercurial Vapor 14 'Motivation Pack’, which he was in while he was still deciding his boot future prior to signing with Nike.
Each boot features a handwritten graphic of Haaland’s signature and his record-breaking number of Premier League goals, while the Norwegian flag takes position on the tongue area. Then, the words ‘Erling’ and ‘Haaland’ feature on the left and right heel respectively as a fitting sign off – probably the last thing defenders will see as he burns past them on his way to goal. Made in Nike’s iconic Montebelluna factory, every boot released will come in Haaland’s boot size – UK 9.5/EU 44.
