Taking custom creations to a whole new level, The Shoe Surgeon has teamed up with USMNT and LAFC Midfielder, Kellyn Acosta, to create his first game-worn football boot in celebration of the El Trafico match against the LA Galaxy on 4 July, 2023.
The Surgeon, also known as Dominic Ciambrone, is a custom creator known for his sneaker crossovers, and he’s always taken favourably to soccer-inspired designs, having previously created one off designs including a Copa Mundial Boost, Tiempo '94 x Jordan 1, Nemeziz x Yeezy Boost, and Copa Rose Whiteout, and most recently a Predator Mania x Balenciaga hybrid – none of which have been officially released to market. Now though, for the first time the creative genius has put his talents to use on an actual pair of football boots, which USMNT and LAFC player, Kellyn Acosta will wear at the iconic Rose Bowl for tonight’s El Traffic match against LA Galaxy.
Inspired by the Kobe 6 Mambacita, The Surgeon team collaborated with Kellyn on the design, integrating the ‘mamba mentality’ of constantly striving to be the best version of yourself. The upper was constructed using authentic black exotics, with hints of gold painted throughout mirroring both LAFC and The Surgeon’s signature brand colours. An American and Japanese flag adorn the back heels that pay homage to Acosta's heritage. A removable tongue was inspired by the iconic Nike Tiempo Legend III 1994 and incorporated into the design, with Kellyn’s sons name, ‘Emerson’ embroidered underneath.
“I’ve done many cleats for football and baseball athletes, but this marks the first cleat we’ve made to wear in a game for pro soccer - a new avenue for a sport very close to me. I grew up playing soccer and it was great to work with Kellyn as the first to break these in.” said Dominic Ciambrone, Founder, The Surgeon.
“Growing up I’ve always been a huge fan of sneakers. Sneakers make up an outfit," explained Costa. "Having the opportunity to collab with one of the best to do it (Dominic) is an exciting moment, and just a dream come true. It was an opportunity to showcase my love for shoes and fashion within the sport that I play. To have this all come to life, has truly been an amazing experience.”
