In celebration of her Balon d’Or win this year, Nike have gifted Aitana Bonmati with a special one-of-one signature Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX, which have been wrapped in a gold coat for the occasion.
Hot on the heels of his Balon d’Or win (so hot, in fact, that it was clearly prepared well ahead of time), adidas presented Lionel Messi with his now customary signature Balon d’Or boot (named El Ocho, in honour of it being his eighth win of the much-coveted award). For Aitana Bonmati, however, that treatment has taken a little longer to come (about as long as you would expect if the award was, indeed, a surprise…) but arrive it has, and in some style, with Nike coating the Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX in gold.
The gold base is joined by black accents throuhout, lending the design definition, most noticeable through the collar and branding. Despite the boots only just being officially revealed, Bonmati has been wearing them in her last two games, scoring a brace in both: the 0-6 win against Villarreal, and the 5-0 win against Benfica.
Bonmati was a deserved winner of the Balon d’Or, having won four titles in the 2022/23 season: the League, the Champions League, the Super Cup and the World Cup. In addition, in both the Champions League and the World Cup, she was recognised as the best player of the tournament. Individually, she scored 14 goals, while providing 17 assists with Barça, and three goals and two assists with the Spanish national team at the World Cup.
