Kicking off the new year with a striking hype drop, Nike reveal the Air Mercurial Tn, combining the Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX and the Air Max Plus OG sneaker in a colourway that nods to 1998’s ‘Voltage Purple’ drop.
Bringing together two of their standout product lines, Nike have revealed the Air Mercurial Tn and supporting collection, which sees the Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX and the Air Max Plus OG lining up alongside one another in uniform “Volt Purple/Total Orange” colourways that acknowledge the heritage of the sneaker. And it hasn’t taken Kylian Mbappe long to lace up in the former, with the PSG man wearing the new special edition release in a recent training session.
The Nike Air Max Plus celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2023 with some special drops including the F.C. Barcelona x Patta Culers del Món collaboration. Heading into 2024 and it’s the OG ‘Voltage Purple’ colourway of the Tuned Air silhouette that’s making a comeback after being revealed back in October, and this collection pays homage to the retro silhouette’s terrace roots.
The collection merges the trademark design of the Air Max with the silhouette of the Nike Mercurial Superfly, with that instantly recognisable wavy aesthetic playing out in purple and black hues on both sets of footwear. A notable switch up for the Superfly sees the Tn from the trainer replaced on boot’s sole plate and liner with a Zm.
Crafted from a ‘Voltage Purple’ mesh construction, the trainer is wrapped in a glossy black cage. A ‘Total Orange’ Swoosh shoots through the lateral and medial sidewalls, and this bold accent extends towards the iconic hexagonal badges that feature across the tongue and heel. Smooth leather wraps around the mudguards, and just like the OG from '98, the extra chunky midsole is infused with Air Max tech.
