Along with their striking new kit, Real Madrid’s match against Athletic Club on the weekend also gave us a first look at the adidas Y-3 Predator 24 in action, and here we take a closer look at what is the latest look for the boot.
The Predator 24 FT has arguably been the en vogue boot of the year. It originally dropped pre-pre-Christmas 2023 in that limited edition black, white, burgundy colourway that celebrated the 30th anniversary of the silo, but it has since gone on to have a wealth of colour options. From the launch Solar Energy look to the crisp and clean whiteout and blackout variations and then the the retro infused Roteiro and Electricity (Energy Citrus) designs, it’s been one hit after another. But this latest limited edition look from Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto is arguably the most luxe of them all, and that’s saying something given what’s come before.
Arriving as part of the adidas Y-3 Real Madrid drop, the Predator 24 was offered up as a canvas for what is the first dedicated performance piece from the collaboration. Exclusive to Real Madrid players, it obviously found its perfect foil in Jude Bellingham, the man who has taken on not only the role as the face of a new generation of Predator wearers, but also as the beacon in the football-fashion movement.
The focus of most football fans’ desire over this last few months has undoubtedly been the return of that fold over tongue. It’s had fans of all ages swooning, desperate to either hark back to their youth or to follow in the footsteps of their hero, Bellingham. So it was an artistic masterstroke to present the Predator 24 in a monochromatic look that placed all emphasis on that tongue – the “Core Black/White” look, for which the base is a pure white and the aforementioned tongue is black, strikes that perfect balance between fashion and performance. This boot almost looks too good to wear, and when paired with the Y-3 Real Madrid kit as it was, creates one of the coldest looks in the game.
The boot see the minimalistic design language of Y-3 perfectly combined with the performance-driven design of the Predator 24, and the stripped-back look features Y-3 founder Yohji Yamamoto’s signature, highlighted in a contrasting silver on the black tongue. The Y-3 logo sits on the heel, along with Yamamoto’s signature again, which appears on the outsole, this time in black, completing the look.
The adidas Y-3 Predator 24 is set to be an extremely limited release, and from a tech perspective they are the same as the regular edition release.
