Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the “starball” design, adidas launch the Finale Istanbul 21, official match ball for the remainder of the 20/21 Champions League season until the final, which takes place in Istanbul on 29 May 2021.
In 2000, adidas took charge of the Champions League contract, initially supplying the match ball for the semi-final and final only in 2001. But what a ball it was, introducing the world to the iconic star design that was based on the UEFA Champions League logo, a look that would continue for the next 20 years. The Finale Istanbul 21 features every design from the last 20 UEFA Champions League finals, weaving past and present together in one high-performance ball. Slim red banners detail each year and city, whilst tiny, embossed stars across the entire surface complete the unique and celebratory aesthetic. The ball continues to offer control, aerobatic stability and a secure grip via thermally bonded hexagon panels, overlapping stars and textured coating. Incorporating sustainable glue, the ball provides a seamless surface and improved first touch for even more precision on the pitch.
