Bringing focus to the business end of the season, Nike launch the official third match ball for the 20/21 Premier League season, with a design that ensures all eyes are on the ultimate prize. Expect to see this rippling in the backs of Premier League nets from now until the end of the season.
Along with the daffodils and the lighter days, another clear sign that we’re heading out of winter and into spring is the disappearance of the Hi-Viz ball. And like last season's Tunnel Vision ball, Nike have introduced an all new design for the final third, when tensions get high and it’s all to play for. But there’s still a long way to go in the 20/21 Premier League season, and as we have found out first hand in the last couple of years, anything can happen.
Ensuring that all eyes remain firmly focused on the prize, Nike have launched the new Premier League third ball, which takes over from the 2020/21 Hi-Vis Premier League Ball. For this third instalment, the Flight ball gets a design that features very specific visual cues, directing sight to the trophy.
The circular look of the new ball instantly conjures images of the Total 90 Aerow, and that’s no bad thing in our books. The ball’s design is made up of two elements, with the lighter white rings featuring a silver camo pattern inspired by the Avro Vulcan fighter jet. The idea of the targeting system in such an aircraft is then carried across the ball, with the “target” design then placing the trophy in the centre of the sights, with graphic elements drawing the eye to the trophy logo at the centre.
Of course there can only be one winner – currently looking odds-on to be Pep’s boys – and contained within the blue target are circles representing the 20 teams aiming for the Premier League title, with 19 “miss” circles and one trophy winner.
