With an obvious cut down on the amount of new boots currently being released, we’ve been turning our attention more to the world of concept designers, seeing what pearls these creatives can produce. And the latest one to catch our eye is the adidas Predator 20.1 painted up to look like the Mania Lunar by designer Chris Pottle.

The Predator Mania is an iconic boot; one that captured the imagination of a generation. It defined the era, stole the show at the 2002 World Cup, and still ranks right up there on any Greatest-Boots-Of-All-Time list, and it will forever be heralded as one of the best Predators of all time. So it’s little wonder that it serves as the influence for so many concepts today, with those young and impressionable kids of 2002 now full grown adults capable of these types of imaginative creations. And Chris Pottle is one such self-professed fan of the Mania, taking the silvery “Lunar” release and wrapping it on the modern canvas that is the Predator Mutator 20.1.

Available in an array of colours throughout its time, including the classic “Champagne”, and the recently rereleased “Red/Metallic Silver” and “Japan Blue”, it’s the “Lunar” launch that is in focus here. This isn’t the most faithful recreation – created more in homage to the original. It sees the base taking on the silvery hues of the OG, while the knitted collar takes on the red that was reserved for the tongue. The Three Stripes appear in their modern iteration, but are moved forward slightly from the mid foot to a forefoot position. Strong throwback vibes and a look we’d happily see make a return in the future.
