Bringing big floral flavour to football, London based label Own finds inspiration from a ‘golden’ era of creative football kit design with their upcoming summer drop of nostalgic shirts. A truly unique cocktail of retro cool for the summer.

In the first collection of an ongoing project, the brand combines fashion and football in an unconventional yet playful manner. Through juxtaposing vintage Hawaiian shirts with classic 90s football shirts, Own creates a surreal sense of confused comfort. The Hawaiian shirts have been meticulously selected based on their appropriation of print, colour and similarities to the retro kits. Once selected, the garment is hand printed with the chosen shirts insignia; club crest, brand logo and sponsor, resulting in unique, 1 of 1 pieces emblematic of a new football culture that exists beyond the pitch and terrace.

The collection references iconic shirts of the 90s whilst the chosen shirt numbers pay homage to the heroes that wore them. (Arsenal 1995/96 away ‘lightning bolt’ shirt worn by Ian Wright, Chelsea 1995-97, worn by Ruud Gullit, Liverpool 1989-91 ‘Candy’ kit worn by John Barnes, Man Utd 1992-94 ‘Newton Heath’ third strip worn by Eric Cantona, Juventus 1995/96 worn by Del Piero and Borussia Dortmund 1995/96 away worn by Mathias Sammer.)

The featured shirts will be available to buy from Own’s online store from 31 st May with many more available at the ‘Own Marketplace’ pop-up shop next month. Own Marketplace takes place at The Hackney Shop, London from June 15-17. Keep tabs on what Own are working on here.
