As they edge towards their competitive debut, Angel City FC continue to drip feed parts of what their eventual identity will be. And next in that line is the club’s crest and colours. The move marks a major milestone in ACFC’s journey to taking the pitch in 2022 as part of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

Back in February we got the reveal of the club’s first-ever front of shirt sponsor, but now exciting new National Women's Soccer League expansion team Angel City FC have lifted the lid on what their club colours will be, along with unveiling the club’s new crest. Accompanying the news is a range of club merchandise that bears the new crest in all its glory.

The timeless crest is a visual representation of the club’s bold vision of rewriting the playbook for sports teams everywhere and making an impact on and off the pitch. The crest is inspired by the team’s home city of Los Angeles, the iconic colours of LA’s sunsets, and the idea that all Angelenos are bound together from the concrete to the coast.

The angel, the core element of the crest, signifies Angel City’s mission of being a positive light in the footballing world, its communities in Los Angeles, and beyond. Unlike most crests in the game, the angel in the centre takes flight, breaking free from the boundaries of the shield, symbolising ACFC’s commitment to challenging the status quo and breaking the mould of traditional sports clubs.

The angel is unabashedly flying towards the sun with wings inspired by Southern California's fiercest bird of prey, the Red-tailed Hawk, and the city's trademark palm trees. The 12 feathers of her plume reflect the togetherness required to succeed in soccer, with 11 representing the players on the pitch and the 12th representing the "12th person," meaning all the staff and supporters, uniting as one team, on and off the field.

"In this great city known for its endless sunsets and legendary stars, our visual identity had to pay homage to these important Los Angeles symbols, yet also signal what Angel City stands for a more equitable future for all," said Julie Uhrman, Founder and President of ACFC.

"We stand on the shoulders of giants, forging a path of change, impact and excellence,” said Kayla Green, Head of Marketing for ACFC. “Our brand identity and crest are representative of everything we believe in. They are a visual reminder to the world that we must never stop challenging the status quo in our unwavering pursuit of equity."

Along with the unveiling, ACFC also dropped a new merchandise line showcasing the crest for the first time. Utilising primarily black bases, the range sees tees, vests, jumpers and jackets, all adorned with the new look crest among other details.

For those that are not in the know, Angel City FC is Los Angeles’ first NWSL team, and it boasts a stellar group of A-list founders, including Academy Award-winning actress and activist Natalie Portman, technology venture capitalist Kara Nortman, media and gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman, and venture capitalist, 776 founder & Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Chuck in the likes of Serena Williams, Jessica Chastain, Eva Longoria, Billie Jean King and fourteen former US Women's National Team players representing Southern California, and you can start to see why this team is already gathering some serious heat, way ahead of even kicking a ball.
