Following a very successful season in which he picked up the Premier League’s Golden Boot, Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea star Son Heung-Min has been announced as the latest brand ambassador for Burberry.

Treading in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford, who was announced as the brand’s winter ambassador in late 2020, Tottenham Hotspur ace Son Heung-Min becomes the latest footballer to be recruited as a global ambassador by British fashion label, Burberry. Son has enjoyed a stellar year in which he scooped the Premier League’s Golden Boot (an award he shared with Liverpool’s Mo Salah, with both scoring 23 goals) as he led Tottenham’s charge for a top four spot and Champions League football. Despite this though he was criminally overlooked for the PFA’s team of the year, but that hasn’t deterred Burberry from recruiting the Korean star.

Being an athlete from the Premier League, it’s my honour to partner with a brand so rich in British heritage,” Son explained. “I love Burberry’s strive for imagination and innovation which has been deeply inherited in its history, which are values that I champion.

Son is no stranger to the world of fashion either, having appeared in Ralph Lauren’s Wimbledon-focused collection last year, but the step up to global ambassador is a new one for him. He is absolutely worshipped in his homeland though, as evidenced by the hero’s welcome he received when returning with his recently acquired Golden Boot, so his appointment by Burberry makes a lot of sense from a marketing perspective.

A spokesman from Burberry said: “The story of Son Heung-min, who worked tirelessly with passion to achieve his dream from a young age, fits the House’s beliefs, ‘discovery of new possibilities’ and ‘the power of imagination that transcends limits’.
