Turning on the style to celebrate the double header of the National League South title and the club’s 120th year, Torquay United have launched a special edition anniversary shirt, which features a stunning design in honour of the Gulls’ unique heritage.
Iconic coastal club Torquay United appear to have stepped up their style game both on and off the pitch, as they follow up their success in the National League South this season with a stunning special edition anniversary shirt that celebrates their 120th year. With a hint of influence from Swedish champions and all-round style kings AIK, the Gulls’ shirt takes its cues from United’s black and white kits of the 1930s, featuring a predominantly black design, with a gold accent colour adding a touch of class to the club crest, Nike Swoosh, and commemorative “1899” numbering on front.
The famous crest has been given a redo, stripping it back to offer a minimalist version that’s in keeping with the rest of the shirt, with the anniversary years appearing on either side – 1899 on the left, 2019 on the right. The “1899” that appears in place of a traditional shirt sponsor has been styled to resemble the traditional curly font seen on the classic 67-68 shirt for even deeper ties to the club’s heritage.
