Celebrating the extension of their current sponsorship deal into a second year, Margate FC and The Libertines have launched a new special edition third kit for the 2019/20 season, titled the Libertines History Kit.

The Libertines History Kit has been so named because, according to the club, it represented the opportunity for fans and supporters to become part of the club’s history, with their names appearing on the kit alongside Pete Doherty, Carl Barât, John Hassall and Gary Powell. The club launched the pre-sale of the shirt with the promise that every person who orders the History Kit before 31 July 2019 will have their name embedded in the final shirt. It has been designed to incorporate the names up to 1000 supporters and fans from all around the world.

And with the orders in and the shirt produced, Margate debuted the striking design in their 5-1 thumping of Carshalton at Hartsdown Park in the Velocity Trophy. The shirt sees a distorted purple and turquoise stripe design running diagonally across the white base of the shirt, giving it an almost lightning effect. Within these distorted stripes are housed the embedded names of those that had preordered the shirt. As expected, ‘The Libertines’ then takes up the sponsor slot on the front of the shirt, while a tidy black collar and cuffs finish the shirt off.

Deny Wilson the Margate FC General Manager said, “I’m really excited to see the reaction of fans to the Libertines History Kit. To have your name on a shirt that will be worn by the band and in games by the team is really unique.

A statement from The Libertines said, “We are really tickled to be sponsoring Margate FC for another season. There are a lot of exciting things going on in Margate at the moment… the Turner Prize, the Gate on a winning streak and not to mention our own Albion Rooms opening later this year.

The new shirt is bespoke and, unbelievably, even more beautiful than the last one and was designed by local pop artist Luke McLean.
