Deck the halls and all that, because Umbro and FC Nürnberg have launched a special limited edition Christmas jersey, which the side will wear this Sunday in their match against Würzburger Kickers.

This year's Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt had to be canceled due to the corona pandemic, but that’s not stopping 1.FC Nürnberg celebrating, as the club, with the help of technical partners Umbro, unveil their now traditional festive shirt. This year, the jersey design is inspired by sweetest tradition from Nuremberg, the Lebkuchen, a type of gingerbread biscuit with a very specific pattern of almonds on the top, commonly found at the city’s world-famous Christmas market. FCN are set to wear the shirt on Sunday, 13 December when they play against the Würzburger Kickers.

Last year, the first Christmas jerseys sold out quicker than the time it takes Santa to break into your house, drop off some gifts and scoff some mince pies, and with only 2500 pieces being released again this year, expect a similar outcome. “The Christmas jersey rounds off the launch of the 'We are the boys from the gingerbread city' collection perfectly by wearing our team's jersey to the next home game,” explained Niels Rossow, Commercial Director of 1. FC Nürnberg. “With the collection and the jersey we want to celebrate our city and show what Nuremberg stands for and what makes us proud of our homeland.

The jersey represents the slogan #wirsinddiejungsausderlebkuchenstadt (try saying that three times in a row) and was designed accordingly. The design is reminiscent of the Nuremberg Christmas treat with the black base colour and wine-red gingerbread applications. The club name and date of foundation are written around the club crest, while the FCN logo is embroidered and surrounded by cream-coloured lettering. In the neck area, the words “Lebkuchenmetropole Nürnberg - since 1395” adorns another red gingerbread. The year 1395 refers to the first documented Lebküchner from Nuremberg. Since the jersey is limited to 2,500 pieces, there is an individual number in each jersey.
