Drawing inspiration from designs of the late 90s and 2000s, Adidas has revealed the much-anticipated River Plate 23/24 third shirt, which sees the return of a black base with a red sash along with a tidy red and white split on the accents..

We’ll be honest – we’ve totally given up trying to figure out the launch schedule for most South American teams and instead just take them as they come. Case in point: River Plate’s new third shirt from adidas, which, one assumes, will be in use for the rest of 2023 and into 2024. It sees the return of the fan favourite black base with a red sash – a look that was first used in 1998 and that then featured prominently for the next few years, before falling out of favour. It was last seen properly in 2009/10 (we’re not including the white bordered effort from 16/17). And now it’s back, and likely to be well received.

As well as the black base and red sash, the shirt also features an innovative two-tone V-neck (one half is white and the other is red), and the same concept is applied to the Three Stripes on the shoulders and the accents on the sleeves (left is white, right is red). Interestingly, the shirt features the regular adidas logo and not the new Performance logo that comes sans the “adidas” wording underneath.

Under the slogan "From River de corazón", this launch completes the collection started last year, with the current home and away shirts.
