They were first revealed at Nike's 2014 Innovation Summit in Madrid before being officially launched in June but now we've taken a closer look at the Nike Mercurial FlyLite Shin Guards to see what they're all about.

Landing as Nike's next breakthrough product, the Mercurial FlyLite shin guards feature tech-infused pads, designed in a Clear/Volt/Black colourway that offer new levels of lightweight protection at just 44g. It's fair to say the two key characteristics that players look for in a shin pad are lightweight & comfort and the Mercurial FlyLite's put a giant Swoosh in both boxes.

Some description

Whereas traditional shin pads used a foam backing, the Mercurial FlyLite Guards use a new webbed shock system that provides a more consistent impact absorption. The innovative webbed backing utilizes pips, which come into contact with the outer shell to help absorb and disperse impact, protecting the shin while removing excess materials.

The honeycomb structure on the guards also delivers optimal airflow and breathability. They might set you back a few extra quid than your standard shinnies but you'd be kitting yourself up with a pair of the most advanced guards on the market.

The Nike Mercurial FlyLite Shin Guards are available at select stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer and are priced at around £40. Let us know what you think, drop a line in the comments.
