Get your AG boots on, grab four mates and go get your game on; yes, Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five, the world’s largest five-a-side competition, is back and better than ever for 2019 and it’s coming to a city near you.
For those unfamiliar, Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five is the Brazilian star’s signature five-a-side tournament bringing players aged 16 to 25 from all corners of the world together. 2019 is the fourth year of the competition that features a unique format that rewards fun, fast paced attacking football, with every goal scored leading to the opposition losing a player. If you fancy yourself as a small-sided maestro then this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. If you’ve got four decent mates as well that is.
Kicking off in the UK on the 17 March in both London and Manchester, the competition is open to both male and female teams. 19 UK qualifiers will take place in total over the course of seven weeks in 12 different locations, and the winners of the regional qualifiers will then go onto the national finals in May, with winners of that then heading over to Brazil for the world finals where teams from over 40 countries will battle it out to be crowned world champions under the watchful eye of Neymar Jr himself. Winners also have the prospect of facing Neymar and co in an exhibition match at the end of the tournament. Just have to watch out for that dodgy metatarsal of his.
