Werder Go Whiteout to Celebrate 100 Years of the Weserstadion

To mark a century of the iconic Weserstadion, Werder Bremen and hummel have unveiled a special-edition shirt that takes a surprisingly simple approach: an all-white design that's unlike anything the club has worn before.

The Weserstadion officially celebrates its 100th birthday on 17 October 2026, but the commemorations are already underway. In a nice touch, Werder revealed the shirt at exactly 19:26 on 23 September, a nod to 1926, the year the stadium first opened its doors.

For a club so closely associated with green, the decision to go completely white feels bold in its own way. In fact, it's the first all-white shirt in Werder's history. Almost every detail follows the whiteout theme, from the hummel logo and signature shoulder chevrons to the sponsor branding and historic Werder diamond crest. The only break from the monochrome look comes through subtle green trim on the collar and sleeve cuffs, giving the shirt just enough contrast without taking away from its clean aesthetic.

The jersey will make its on-pitch debut during the Werder Legenden vs Real Madrid Leyendas fixture on 26 September, before being worn by the current first team for one game only when they face SC Paderborn on 17 October, the exact date of the stadium's centenary celebrations.

"The Weserstadion is far more than simply our home ground," said SV Werder Bremen CEO Klaus Filbry. "For the past 100 years, it has been a place of emotion, shared memories and unforgettable stories that have brought our club, our city and generations of Werder fans together. This special anniversary shirt pays tribute to the unique history of the Weserstadion while also looking to the future and the many more unforgettable moments we hope to share together by the Weser.

While the overall look is deliberately understated, there's plenty going on beneath the surface. The shirt is packed with details that celebrate both the stadium and its location on the banks of the River Weser.

Inside the back of the neck sits a historic illustration of the stadium alongside the words "Wo die Weser einen großen Bogen macht" ("Where the Weser bends") and "Weserstadion 1926–2026". It's a subtle reference to the ground's history and the distinctive curve of the river that has framed it for the last century.

More anniversary-themed touches can be found elsewhere. The phrase "100 Jahre Weserstadion" appears beneath the rear collar in green, while a small side label featuring "1926" pays homage to the year it all began.

Even the fabric itself tells part of the story. A tonal geometric wave pattern is embossed throughout the shirt, inspired by the bend in the Weser that loops around the stadium. It's the kind of detail you might miss at first glance, but one that ties the whole concept together nicely.

It's fitting that, for such a significant milestone, Werder have resisted the temptation to do anything over the top. Instead, they've delivered a shirt that lets the occasion speak for itself, combining a clean, elegant look with a series of thoughtful nods to one of German football's most beloved stadiums. Sometimes less really is more.
