A year on from receiving her first-ever Nike signature boot, Sam Kerr is back with another head-turning Mercurial from Nike. It arrives carrying an empowering message: "Become the player the world can't stop." And judging by the look of these boots, subtlety was never part of the plan.
Signature boots remain a relatively rare honour in women’s football, making Sam Kerr's second exclusive Nike Mercurial Superfly another significant milestone in a career that's already helped redefine the women's game. Following on from last year's debut signature release, Nike has once again handed the Australian superstar a design that feels every bit as bold and distinctive as the player herself.
Officially dressed in Green Glow/Black, the boot starts with a fresh mint green foundation that immediately catches the eye. But it's the detailing layered over the top that really brings the design to life. Sweeping across the upper is a stunning iridescent gradient that shifts between shades of light blue, purple and pink depending on the angle and lighting. The effect almost gives the boot a holographic appearance, creating constant movement across the surface. It's one of those designs that looks impressive in official photos but will likely look even better under stadium floodlights.
The large lateral Swoosh provides a striking contrast against the colourful backdrop. Nike has opted for a deep purple finish that almost borders on black from certain angles, while a glowing pink outline helps it pop even further. The combination ties perfectly into the shifting colours found throughout the upper and gives the boot an unmistakably fast Mercurial look.
Underfoot, the Mercurial's translucent soleplate provides another hidden detail. Through the clear sole, flashes of bright orange and red can be seen underneath, creating a sharp contrast against the cooler tones used on the upper. It's the kind of feature that's easy to miss initially but adds another layer of personality to the overall design.
As you'd expect from a signature release, Kerr's personal touch is present too, with her signature 'SK' logo appearing on the heel and on the Air Zoom unit on the sole, both acting as a nice sign off for the design.
