Whilst he’s been keeping his fitness up with Arsenal, Jack Wilshere has seemingly also joined New Balance. Having been wearing the Tekela v3+ in recent weeks, he’s now given us a first look at the next generation of the silo.

Jack Wilshere was made a free agent in the summer and is currently training with Arsenal, while he’s also been taking on some coaching duties among the youth teams. In amongst what is a transitional period for the former England international is a switch up in his boot brand partnership. Formerly a Nike athlete,  the 29-year-old now appears to be on the books of New Balance, but unlike the raft of players that have joined the brand in the last 12 months who all wear the Furon v6+, Wilshere has been one of the few athletes wearing the Tekela. Now it seems he’s been selected to test out the next generation of the silo.

Spotted in training, Wilshere has been wearing the blackout prototype over the last week, with the fact it’s laceless giving it away as the Tekela, and the ‘NB’ branding on the heel confirming it’s New Balance, for anyone who was in doubt.

In terms of what’s new, the collar certainly seems higher than its predecessor, likely to provide a better fit and a more locked down feel. There also looks to be some raised texture in specific contact zones, the assumption being that New Balance have looked to improve ball control and accuracy. The Tekela has always been criminally overlooked by the vast majority of professionals at the top of the game: could this next generation upgrade be the version to change that?
