As part of their 70th anniversary, adidas have dropped two COPA70 sneakers, further extending their football-inspired lifestyle offerings with some vintage limited edition vibes.

Whether you knew it or not, adidas have been around for 70 years, and to celebrate, they’ve taken their mantra of ‘authenticity to progression’ and really ran with it, re-releasing one of the most iconic football boot of all time with a modern twist that spills into lifestyle circles. Say hello to the COPA70Y TR in a duo of the most traditional designs.

Available in two classic colourways of "Black/White" and "Off White/Black", the COPA 70Y TR adopts the same engineered Primeknit upper as the on-pitch COPA70 football boot, which is the flagship of this celebratory collection. Using the cutting edge knit material upper, adidas have recreated the upper of the OG Copa Mundial, right down to the golden lettering that rides along the Three Stripes branding on the lateral side, offering a timeless style made with new materials.

From a distance you’d be forgiven for thinking you were looking at a Gazelle, the silhouette is such a close match to the Originals super-sneaker, but it’s that gum rubber outsole that gives it away. The outsoles feature red ‘heat map islands’ referencing the look the boots took on in the 1970s.

Forgetting all links to leather on the outer, the Three Stripes are knitted into the upper, while leather takes its place on the inside of the boot, linking it back to where it all began. The other difference you’ll notice is the original bluebird logo on the tongue of each colourway; yet another nod to the iconic 1982 Copa Mundial. Footballing royalty with a modern tweak, these are a must have along with the complementing clothing collection.
