Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and adidas expand their premium collection ahead of FW19, and as part of that expansion the world of football has been enveloped in their latest release with the launch of the Y-3 Tangutsu Football Trainer.

For those not in the know, Y-3 is a collaborative label that sees adidas and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto reinterpreting each other’s classic designs. See, the ‘Y’ stands for Yohji Yamamoto, while the ‘3’ represents adidas' Three Stripes, with the dash signifying the bond between the two. And as part of the Fall/Winter '19 collection, Y-3 has reinterpreted the Samba football silhouette, instantly conjuring images of some of adidas Originals’ most iconic creations.

The Y-3 Tangutsu Football Trainer takes a classic calfskin leather upper with that familiar tapered toe and signature Three Stripe overlay and places it on a thick rubber outsole to create a distinctive, chunky profile. Y-3 logos and details appear on the padded tongue, heel and treaded rubber outsole, while Yohji Yamamoto’s signature features on the lateral side of the wide midsole for a nice sign off. Progressive takes on classic shapes – all over this.
