Offering up the second creation of the new partnership, Nike launch the Liverpool 20/21 away shirt, and it’s fair to say that the shackles have been somewhat removed, with a vivid design that adopts the teal of the club crest, along with a graphic print inspired by the Shankly gate.

Nike got their Liverpool partnership underway recently with the club’s first-ever Swoosh-adorned home kit. It’s a clean affair that honours the tradition of the club, mixing that with a modern vibe by combining a vibrant red with a touch of teal. And it’s that teal that becomes the focus of the club’s new away shirt, as Nike push the boundaries with a wild design that pays homage to an icon of the club, along with the city’s symbiotic link with music.

Framed with bold black accents through the collar, cuffs, side stripe, sponsor logo and crest, the shirt design is centred on a core part of the club’s folklore – the Shankly gates. The sublimated graphic that runs throughout the whole body takes the floral motif and the elements contained with the gates themselves, presenting them in a layered approach that’s inspired by the thousands of music posters that cover one another and are in part, torn away, creating a unique aesthetic that is at the heart of the city.

We have very distinct design filters that are fully demonstrated in the collection we’ve created for Liverpool FC,” says Scott Munson, VP, Nike Football Apparel. “We set out to create a collection that celebrates the rich culture of the city of Liverpool and the club. The away kit allowed us to be bolder and more expressive in how we brought some of these cultural references to life, and we’ve landed on a look and aesthetic that really reflects that.”
