Taking a leaf out of Arsenal’s book, Spanish brand Kelme provide Watford with a rather striking third shirt for the 21/22 season. The bespoke dark green strip with golden trim features an eye-catching jacquard pattern woven into the main body.

The 21/22 season not only marks Watford’s return to the top tier of English football, but also Kelme’s debut in the Premier League. For the occasion the Spanish brand went for a fairly radical reworking for the club’s home shirt and a decent effort for the away, but the third shirt is really out there. OK, so with a yellow home kit, a red away kit and no European competition to speak of, we’re not entirely sure how often Watford’s new third shirt is going to be needed. But it doesn’t take away from what is a bold design for the Hornets.

Utilising a strike effect graphic that’s reminiscent of both the new Arsenal third shirt and the Philadelphia Union secondary shirt – both from adidas – but also their own popular goalkeeper jersey from last season, the shirt sees different green tones through the body, with the shoulders and sleeves arriving in block green. Gold details pop through the collar, cuffs, branding, crest and sponsor.

So is this design good or not? Bound to be divisive, but we certainly applaud the intent. The Home shirt was not particularly well received outside of the club, and the away shirt was a little underwhelming, but this third shirt more than makes up for it in terms of creativity. The brand took the reigns at the club following their relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2018/19 season, bringing something a little different to their promotion push, and now they're in the Premier League they're clearly looking to catch the eye.
